The FPA won’t comprise of just Blizzard and Riot, but will be host to a bunch of different companies such as Intel, Epic, CCPGames, Discord, Twitch, Supercell, and more, many of which gamers are probably familiar with. Speaking to Kotaku, Riot senior technical designer Kimberly Voll said that the goal was to create a set of consistent behavior standards in hopes that companies in the future will have something to work off of when creating new games.
According to Voll, “A lot of these challenges today are super intimidating. These are big cultural shifts. As an industry and as a society online, we’re trying to find our way. Having to be a company that steps out and says ‘We’re gonna be the ones to do this’ is kinda scary. This is an opportunity for all of us to say ‘What if we walked together as an industry?'”
Given that the alliance is only just getting started, it’s probably a bit too early to tell how it will fare, but we suppose it’s a good start and hopefully will yield some positive results.
