Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Won’t Feature In-Display Fingerprint Sensor

A recent interview at MWC 2018 revealed the reason why Samsung did not include an in-display fingerprint sensor in the newly announced Galaxy S9 and S9+. Based on the comments, it was even suggested that the Galaxy Note 9 might pass on the feature which is what analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is suggesting as well.

In a note to investors obtained by AppleInsider, it appears that the analyst doesn’t believe that the upcoming Note 9 will feature the technology. Kuo writes, “According to our understanding of the technologies, under-display fingerprint solutions may currently have many technical issues (e.g. screen protectors and different environments affecting recognition rates and power-consumption).”

However this comments were made despite the fact that companies such as Vivo have successfully launched a phone with an in-display fingerprint sensor, although tests have indicated that it is slightly slower compared to traditional fingerprint scanners. Like we said, Samsung had already hinted at such so Kuo’s note only serves to confirm it.

According to Samsung, they said that they are still working on the tech and that they want to ensure that it works 100% of the time before they release it. The fact that it might not arrive on the Note 9 suggests that Samsung could be still some ways off from perfecting it.
