Following the success of the Wonder Woman movie, it wasn’t surprising that Warner Bros. had confirmed that a sequel would be in the works. Naturally the sequel would be starring Gal Gadot who will be reprising her role as Wonder Woman, but who else is expected to star in it? Or more importantly, who will be the sequel’s main antagonist?
Turns out it will be none other than Kristen Wiig who will be taking on the role of Cheetah. This piece of news was picked up and reported by multiple outlets, and was also confirmed by Wonder Woman 2’s director Patty Jenkins on Twitter, where the director expressed her excitement at Wiig’s casting.
So excited to confirm the most thrilling news. Yes! It’s true! So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family. Can't wait to finally work with one of my favorites. And SO excited by what we have planned. #Cheetah!!! @GalGadot pic.twitter.com/Gn0jICiIAH

It will be interesting to see how Wiig will pull off the role, especially given that Wiig is probably best known for her comedic roles, like that of her stint at Saturday Night Live, or in the movie Bridesmaids, or in 2016’s Ghostbusters. However we have seen how actors known for comedic roles have pulled off action movies, like Paul Rudd in Ant-Man, so it is possible.
For those unfamiliar with the comics, Cheetah is one of Wonder Woman’s main villains where she used to live her life as an archaeologist, but was later transformed into the Cheetah during a ritual. It is unclear if the movie plans on exploring her origins in the same way, but we’ll have to wait and see as Wonder Woman 2 is currently set for a release on the 1st of November, 2019.
