In a report from Famitsu (via Nintendo Life), it looks like Hori will be launching its own Joy-Con controller. However this controller is only for the left side of the console, but one of the highlights is the fact that it will feature a “proper” D-pad which is a good alternative to arcade fight sticks. The fact that the Switch is portable also helps add to its appeal, meaning that if you don’t want to lug around a separate controller, this could do in a pinch.
However there is a catch and that is unlike the regular official Joy-Con, Hori’s version will not come with motion-sensing, which means that for some games that require motion sensing, you won’t be able to use Hori’s Joy-Con. However like we said, it is ideal for fighting games which means that gamers probably won’t mind as much.
The Joy-Con will be released in July in Japan where it will cost 2,678 yen. No word on whether or not it will find its way to the US or other markets, but given that Hori does sell its accessories globally, it is possible.
