Based on Blizzard’s release schedule, we know that a new Hearthstone expansion was in the works, and the good news for Hearthstone players is that it looks like the new expansion has since been officially announced. Dubbed “The Witchwood”, it seems that the latest expansion will be based on Gilneas.
For those unfamiliar with World of Warcraft, Gilneas is the part of the starting area for the Worgen, a race for the Alliance faction. According to Blizzard, “The city of Gilneas once lived in uneasy peace with the sprawling, ancient forest that looms beyond its walls. Though the wilderness was grim and forbidding, the citizens of Gilneas—being no ordinary folks—roved and hunted there without fear. That was before a darkness began to fester in the heart of the forest. . . . Before the curse of The Witchwood!”
As expected the game will feature a bunch of new cards, 135 to be exact. It will also introduce some new mechanics and Legendaries. Blizzard is also promoting the game by offering gamers three free packs and a random Class legendary card, both of which will be from the expansion, just by logging into the game after the expansion has been released.
As for a release date, Blizzard hasn’t offered any specifics save for a release in mid-April which is pretty soon. The expansion packs are now available for pre-order where those who pre-order will be given an additional 20 packs as a bonus along with a “In a Dark Wood” card back.
