Google announced at the Mobile World Congress 2018 last month that it would expand Google Lens to all Android phones in the near future. Lens is a visual search tool that was previously available only on Google’s Pixel smartphones. Google is now rolling out this feature to all Android smartphones that have Google Photos installed.
Google Lens is powered by a computer vision system which lets users point their handset’s camera at an object and get information about it in real-time. The algorithm, powered by artificial intelligence, can recognize real-world items.
The feature can be used to save information from business cards or a URL from a poster or a file. It can be used to call a phone number written on a paper. Lens is even capable of identifying landmarks and surfacing information for books, movies, art, and more by pointing the camera at book covers, movie posters, and museum installations.
Google has confirmed today that its Lens feature is now being rolled out to all Android smartphones with Google Photos installed. Some devices will also be able to use Lens through Google Assistant, they include flagship smartphones from Samsung, LG, Motorola, Huawei, Sony, and Nokia.
Google Lens is being rolled out in phases to supported devices now so it’s going to take some time before this feature surfaces in Google Photos for all users.
