Analysts Believe A Foldable iPhone Could Launch In 2020

When it comes to smartphones with foldable displays, it seems that pretty much only Samsung seems to be exploring that front, at least publicly. However it looks like Samsung might not be alone because according analysts from Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Apple could be getting in on the action as well.

The report from CNBC claims that the analysts are saying that Apple is working with their Asian partners on such a device which they expect to launch in the next 2 years. According to analyst Wamsi Mohan, “We expect the iPhones this fall to be largely unchanged for the OLED versions although size changes have proved to be a catalyst in the past. Our checks also suggest that Apple is working with suppliers on a foldable phone (that potentially could double up as a tablet) for launch in 2020.”

Like we said, so far Samsung appears to be the only company to have publicly confirmed that they are working on a phone with a foldable display. While it will no doubt be a great way to showcase their display technology, it is unclear if such a device will have any demand. An example would be phones with glasses-free 3D displays which in theory was an interesting idea, but it is clear that it never really quite caught on.
