Fitbit is best known for its wearable fitness trackers and the company today expanded the reach of its products to kids. It has launched the Fitbit Ace today, its first wearable fitness band meant for children aged 8 and up. The band is capable of tracking steps, active minutes, and sleep with up to five days of battery life on a single charge.
Fitbit says that its aim with the Ace is to inspire kids to build healthy habits and counter decreasing levels of activity in children. The Ace will encourage kids aged 8 and up to develop more active and healthy habits.
Parents will be able to use the Fitbit app to keep an eye on their kids’ activity levels and sleep hours. They will also have the ability to approve the contacts that their kids can share activities with in the app. Ace accounts won’t be allowed to tune into the social component of the Fitbit app which enables users to post photos and workout summaries.
Aside from tracking their fitness activity, the Ace will also nudge children to get at least 250 steps each hour with a small buzz when they’ve been stationary for too long. It’s going to reward them with celebratory messages and rewards for achieving their goals.
The Fitbit Ace is available for pre-sale starting today for $99.95. It’s going to be available in stores globally starting Q2 2018. The Ace offers 10 unique clock faces and two interchangeable bands in electric blue and power purple colors.
