Elon Musk has his fingers in multiple pies. He’ll gladly sell you an electric car or a solar roof for your house while figuring out a way to ease public transport and get you on Mars. You wouldn’t normally associate comedy with Musk given that he’s no comedian but according to a new report, Musk is financially backing a new secret comedy project. He’s even said to have poached team members from the popular satire site The Onion.
The Daily Beat reports that several former top staffers and writers of The Onion are now working on a secret project that’s being backed by Musk. Former Onion editor in chief Cole Bolton and executive editor Ben Berkley are both said to be involved with this project ever since they left the publication in 2017. They have poached three of the site’s writers recently and even a longtime editor.
“We can confirm that we have learned nothing from prevailing trends in media and are launching a brand-new comedy project,” Bolton and Berkley said in a statement provided to the scribe, without really describing what’s the project they’re working on.
It’s believed that the new project is likely going to be another written satirical-news property or website. Musk reportedly wanted to buy The Onion years ago and might have decided to create a similar site.
“It’s pretty obvious that comedy is the next frontier after electric vehicles, space exploration, and brain-computer interfaces,” he said in a cheeky statement provided to the scribe.
