Apple Music Now Boasts 38 Million Subscribers

Earlier this year, Spotify announced that they were home to about 70 million subscribers which pretty much puts them on top of the list as far as music streaming platforms are concerned. However it seems that Apple is catching up, and fast because the company has confirmed that Apple Music now has 38 million subscribers.

This number was revealed by Apple’s SVP of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue during an interview at SXSW. Cue boasted that Apple managed to add an additional 2 million new subscribers in a little over a month. Note that the 38 million figure is for full subscribers, meaning those who are subscribed and paying. It does not take into account the additional 8 million users who are using the service on a trial basis, according to Cue.

Exactly how many of those 8 million subscribers eventually become full paying subscribers is anyone’s guess, but as previously reported, Apple Music’s growth has some believing that Apple has what it takes to overtake Spotify by this summer. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen, but it’s hard to ignore the platform’s growth.

That being said, there does seem to be signs that Spotify could be looking to diversify where a job listing has hinted that the company might be interested in expanding into hardware by creating its own smart speaker.
