Would you rather prefer that Alexa was less talkative as it went about doing what you command it to? If you answered yes to that question then you would certainly like to know that Amazon is testing a “brief mode” for Alexa which is going to make the assistant less talkative. What the mode does essentially replace some of the assistant’s verbal responses to your commands with beeps.
The test feature was first spotted by Reddit users. It replaces some of Alexa’s verbal confirmations in response to commands with a confirmation chime. So, for example, instead of saying “Okay” when asked to turn on a smart light, Alexa will simply perform the task and then confirm that it has done so by just playing a beep.
Only some users reported on Reddit that they could access the new Brief Mode which let them decide whether or not they want their assistant to be more talkative in response to their commands.
This suggests that Amazon is merely testing this feature right now and it may decide later whether or not it wants to roll it out to all users. It’s certainly going to be useful for the times when users would rather prefer non-verbal responses from Alexa, such as early in the morning when they don’t want to disturb other people.
