It seems that Google has yet to decide how they want to approach music streaming. The company already has Google Play Music, YouTube Music, and YouTube Red (although the latter covers more than just music and also offers up exclusive videos). However we have heard that Google could be working on another music streaming service.
Now thanks to a recent APK teardown by the folks at Android Police of the YouTube Music app, it seems that there have been some references made to “YouTube Premiere”. This comes in the form of icons, where in addition to the YouTube Music and YouTube Red icons, there is the addition of the YouTube Premiere icon (pictured above).
As Android Police notes, see the former two icons is not unexpected, but the Premiere icon is definitely new. Unfortunately that’s all that they have to go on, and at this point in time it is unclear as to what YouTube Premiere could constitute. However following the rumors that YouTube could be planning a new music streaming service, it wouldn’t be a stretch to think that they are somehow related.
The rumors have also suggested that the service could be announced in March, meaning that the appearance of the icon in the latest APK makes sense, but either way we’ll find out soon enough.
