Google launched YouTube Go in India last year. It’s a brand new app that has been built from the ground up for markets where connectivity is poor or cellular data is very expensive. It enables users to download videos that they can watch offline and even share locally with friends using a device-to-device connection. The app was previously available in a handful of markets but it has been rolled out in more than 130 countries today.
The YouTube Go home screen displays trending and popular videos in the user’s area. The app now has additional features as well such as the ability to stream and download videos in higher quality.
The company has also made it easier for users to get more personalized content. They can get new personalized content now with a simple pull of the home screen. Users had requested that the app allow them to share multiple videos at once and that’s possible starting today.
YouTube Go is an Android-only app and even with the wider rollout today, it’s still focusing on markets where access to cellular data is limited. Google is yet to confirm if it’s ever going to launch the app in developed markets like the United States, Japan, Canada, England, France, South Korea, etc.
