Uber Windows 10 App Bites The Dust

Uber released its first app for Windows Phone 8/8.1 back in 2014 after it tried to pass off what looked like a web wrapper for its site as a Windows Phone app in 2013. Uber has come a long way since then while Windows Phone has faded into oblivion. Uber even launched a new app for Windows 10 Mobile-powered devices towards the end of 2015 but it’s no longer going to support the platform any further. It has yanked support for the Windows 10 app.

One can argue that Uber has been a supporter of Microsoft’s mobile ambitions even at times when others have stayed away from its platform. Its 2015 app which leveraged Microsoft’s Universal Windows Platform has no future because the company is no longer interested in it.

This isn’t really Uber’s fault given that Microsoft itself isn’t interested in the Windows 10 Mobile platform anymore. It’s unclear right now if and when a Windows 10 Mobile-powered smartphone will ever hit the market again.

The app’s listing page already has a lot of negative reviews from users who complain that it can’t even locate the pickup location on the map anymore. Uber support has now confirmed in response to a query about the app that they’re no longer supporting the app on Windows. It also recommends that Uber users should use the app on an iPhone or Android device instead.

This makes it clear that the company won’t be diverting any resources to developing an app for a dead platform anymore.
