However over time as more keyboard apps introduced similar features, Swype slowly faded into the background and it looks like it has since been officially discontinued. This is according to a post on Reddit in which Redditor dancedar emailed Nuance regarding support for the app, in which they received a replying stating that the app has been discontinued.
The statement from Nuance reads, “Nuance will no longer be updating the Swype+Dragon keyboard for Android. We’re sorry to leave the direct-to-consumer keyboard business, but this change is necessary to allow us to concentrate on developing our AI solutions for sale directly to businesses.”
This has also since been confirmed by the folks at XDA who reached out to Nuance’s PR team who more or less told them the same thing. What this means is that while the keyboard is still usable, just don’t expect it to be updated anymore in the future with new features or bug fixes, but if you think that it works fine for you now, you can go ahead and keep using it.
