Just the other day Blizzard confirmed that they will be hosting yet another Lunar New Year event in Overwatch titled “Year of the Dog” (it’s the year of the dog based on the Chinese Zodiac). However little else was revealed during the announcement, at least until now where Blizzard has confirmed that the event will be introducing a new map to the game.
In the Developer Update video above, Overwatch’s director Jeff Kaplan confirmed that they new map will be taking place in Thailand, and that for the first time ever, they have built a map specifically for capture-the-flag purposes. Last year’s Overwatch Lunar New Year event also had a capture-the-flag (or Capture the Rooster, to be more specific) event, so it doesn’t really come as a surprise that Blizzard would bring it back for 2018.
Kaplan also stated that Blizzard had taken into account the various feedback that players gave from last year’s event, and have since made a bunch of changes of the rules of capture-the-flag in the game. One of those changes includes the removal of “draws” in matches and will introduce a sudden-death mode should both teams end up tied at the end of the timer.
He also confirms that there will be six new Legendary skins introduced in the game, such as those for Mercy and Genji. Overwatch’s “Year of the Dog” event will be kicking off on the 8th of February, so mark that date down on your calendar if this is something you’re interested in.
