Apple will reveal its next major platform update for mobile devices, iOS 12, in the summer this year before eventually releasing it in the fall. Previous reports have suggested that some major iOS 12 features have been delayed for the sake of quality. Apple wants to release a more polished software update instead of one that’s packed with new features but suffers from bugs at the same time. One new feature that hasn’t been shelved is the ability to put an Animoji on your face during FaceTime video calls.
Animojis are the virtual characters that Apple introduced with the iPhone X last year. They’re only available on the iPhone X right now as the handset has the required Face ID camera.
Bloomberg reports that Apple is planning to integrate Animojis into FaceTime. This will let users put a virtual face on themselves in a video call. It’s also claimed that the Animojis will also be making their way to the iPad when Apple releases a refreshed model that has a compatible Face ID camera.
The report also mentions that iOS 12 is going to bring a redesigned native stock-tracking app from Apple this year as well as an updated Do Not Disturb mode let gives users more options to automatically reject phone calls or mute notifications.
Some iPad-specific features are said to have been delayed until 2019. This includes a feature which would have made it possible to run multiple windows in one app with users being able to click between them like tabs in a web browser. A related enhancement would have also allowed users to let two screens from the same app run side-by-side.
Apple hasn’t confirmed anything about iOS 12 at this point in time and it’s unlikely that the company will say anything about it prior to WWDC 2018 where iOS 12 will be officially announced.
