The company has announced that they will now be introducing support for various digital assistant services, which includes Amazon’s Alexa, Google Assistant, and Microsoft’s Cortana. Noticeably missing is Apple’s Siri, so it is unclear as to whether or not HP will eventually add support for Siri or if there are no current plans to.
According to Anneliese Olson, general manager and global head of home printing at HP, “Integrating voice into the home printer is an undeniably useful application of the technology. For busy families, the virtual assistant ecosystem makes a lot of sense and connecting a printer to it is a natural extension within the smart home.”
However take note that these changes only apply to HP’s web-enabled printers, which means that if you are still using an old printer model, then we guess you’ll have to either upgrade or miss out on this. We expect that with this move, other printer companies might eventually follow suit.
