The report claims that HBO managed to outbid Apple for the show, dubbed Demimonde. It was also reported that this had to do with Abrams’ relationship with HBO in which he is the executive producer for HBO’s Westworld. Abrams was also said to have been impressed with what HBO did for Westworld, which could have swayed his decision to sell his show to the network.
At the moment it is unclear as to how many episodes there will be in the series, but it is said to be marketed as an “an epic and intimate sci-fi fantasy drama.” That being said while Apple might not have managed to secure Abrams’ show, Apple has other big names that will be launching series for them, such as a comedy series starring Kristen Wiig along with a new series by La La Land’s director Damien Chazelle.
At this point in time it is still unclear as to how Apple plans on releasing their shows, whether it will be released via Apple Music or Apple TV.
