This is according to new data from Sensor Tower (who also provided the first-day numbers) who claims that the game managed to pull $300 million within its first year. It has also been pointed out that this amount means that Fire Emblem Heroes managed to gross five times more than what Super Mario Run made, despite the popularity of the Mario franchise.
That being said it’s not a surprise as to why the game is making Nintendo so much money. This is thanks to a tweaked loot box-like system in which players have a chance of summoning 3, 4, and 5-star heroes. It is this “gacha” model that presumably is keeping players spending real-life money on the game.
Its success also has us wondering why Nintendo was so resistant to the idea of mobile games a few years ago, because if anything these successes seem to be a good indication that going mobile was the right move. Of course not all of Nintendo’s mobile launches have been successful, such as Miitomo in which Nintendo will be shutting it down come May 2018.
