During Apple’s annual shareholders meeting, the company’s CEO Tim Cook stated that he believes that Apple could make a “significant contribution” in health care. This comes in the form of not just the Apple Watch, but in other ways such as bringing medical records to the iPhone. There is also Apple’s collaboration with the US FDA for a pilot program that is trying to figure out how to best regulate lower-risk digital health products.
Apple has also teamed up with health insurance company Aetna who will be offering discounted Apple Watches to its customers. That being said at the end of the day exactly what will this result in remains to be seen. However what is clear is that Apple is certainly moving beyond the typical products and services that they usually offer, and are branching into more fields. With the health sector said to be worth $3 trillion, it seems that Apple definitely wants a slice of that pie.
