However for the most part, cases of exploding headphones are pretty rare, if at all, at least until now where a report from WFLA (via 9to5Mac) revealed that a Tampa resident by the name of Jason Colon experienced something like that with his AirPods headphones. The report claims that Colon was at the gym working out when his right AirPod started “billowing” smoke.
He quickly took them out and went to seek help, but when he returned, apparently the AirPod had apparently burst open and showed “flame damage”. According to Colon, “It was already like this. It was already popped. I didn’t see it happen, but I mean, it was already fried! You can see flame damage. I don’t know what would’ve happened to my ear, but I’m sure since it hangs down, my ear lobe could’ve been burnt.”
8 On Your Side has since been told by an Apple spokeswoman that they are investigating the issue and will be reaching out to Colon.
