YouTube has a lot to deal with in recent times, what with exploitive videos featuring children somehow managing to escape reviews and detection, and also the controversy surrounding YouTube Logan Paul and his videos. Now the company has been announcing several changes that they’ll be making to help combat all of this, with their latest effort being an investment in “positive” content.
Announced on the YouTube blog, the company has stated that they will be looking to make an investment in creating more positive content. This will be part of their YouTube Creators for Change program which was launched in 2016 to help combat hate and to promote tolerance. YouTube’s update for Creators of Change for 2018 comes in the form of a $5 million investment towards positive content.
According to YouTube, “We will engage more creators in the program, arm the wider YouTube community with new tools and education on how to create change, and empower more young people to use their voices to encourage positive social messages. In the coming months, we’ll announce the global recipients of the production grants we’re making available through this renewed investment.”
YouTube is also claiming how their Creators for Change program has had a positive impact, where students who were surveyed in Germany and UK reported a “significant increase” in confidence as a result of these workshops.
