Unfortunately it looks like AT&T isn’t the only one as Verizon is also said to be backing off on their deal with Huawei as well. This is according to a report from Android Police who cites a source as saying that the reason for this was due to “political pressure”. The original plan was to offer the phone in the summer, but it was later pushed to the fall, and now it seems that it might have been cancelled entirely.
This echoes a report from The Information (paywall) in which apparently US intelligence committees wrote to the FCC expressing their concern over reports that Huawei represented a security threat due to their alleged ties to China’s Communist Party and China’s intelligence and security services.
Note that this is actually not the first time that we’ve seen Huawei accused of being a “spy” for China. There were allegations leveled against the company several years ago, which they have since denied. That being said regardless of whether the deal is going through or not, Huawei has recently announced their plans to sell the Mate 10 Pro and Mate 10 Pro Porsche Design stateside where it will be available for purchase unlocked.
