You can buy an Android Wear-powered smartwatch for under $300 and now for as much as $197,000. Swiss watchmaker Tag Heuer has launched the world’s most expensive Android Wear smartwatch. It’s not a new device, mind you, it’s just a diamond-encrusted version of its existing Connected Modular 45 smartwatch that the company first launched last year.
Tag Heuer unveiled this ostentatious creation called the TAG Heuer Connected Full Diamonds at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie Genève watch show. It’s like CES but for watches.
It’s all about the diamonds with this ridiculous smartwatch. It touts 589 VVS baguette size diamonds totaling 23.35 carats. The 45mm case is made from polished white gold but what else would you set the diamonds on? The bezel, lugs, and bracelet tout 78, 16, and 495 stones respectively.
The company says that the price tag on this smartwatch is 190’000 CHF which is just a hair under $200,000 at approximately $197,000. It is without a doubt the most expensive Android Wear smartwatch ever made. Suddenly the $17,000 solid-gold Apple Watch Edition doesn’t seem like a bad idea, does it?
If you don’t have this much money to blow on a smartwatch, and even if you did it wouldn’t be a terribly sane choice, perhaps you’d be better off with non-diamond touting iteration of the Connected Modular 45 smartwatch which costs only $1,600.
$197,000 is a lot of money and it can get you quite a few of the latest mechanical watches from prestigious Swiss brands, diamonds and all.
