So how do other developers and publishers feel? According to an interview with Metro, Square Enix’s CEO Yosuke Matsuda said that as long as loot boxes do not get in the way of the player experience, it’s fine. “It is obviously very bad to have loot boxes that get in the way of the player experience, or detract from it in some way.”
He adds, “That’s clearly not a good thing. You have to really think about what they do to add to the overall gameplay experience, and how they fit in with that and the overall design of the game. I think that’s the way we should look at these things.” Like we said, some lawmakers in various parts of the world are seeing loot boxes as gambling, and are claiming it should be treated as such and should not be exposed to young gamers.
However at the same time, there are some who deny that loot boxes are gambling and that it’s about delivering content, but there are also some who clearly have an issue with it.
