However it seems that Samsung could have potentially solved the iPhone X’s notch design issue, thanks to a recently discovered patent by Dutch website LetsGoDigital. According to Samsung’s patent, the answer is instead of having a huge panel that houses all the components and leading to the notch, how about poking holes through the screen for various components to come through?
In theory this should allow the creation of a full-screen device where even the cameras can be “hidden” in the display. So far Samsung’s current answer is to create bezels as thin as possible to house the speakers and cameras, and while it isn’t as noticeable or obvious as the notch, it is still there which we suppose prevents Samsung from creating a full-screen handset.
However it should be noted that this patent was originally filed back in 2016, which means that Samsung has yet to make it a reality and we’re not sure if there are plans to do so. That being said, there is a more recent rumor that has suggested that 2019’s iPhones could feature a considerably slimmed down notch, but we guess we’ll have to wait and find out.
