During the company’s conference call for their Q4 2017 earnings, Samsung confirmed their plans to launch a foldable OLED smartphone in 2018. According to the company, “In 2018, we will differentiate through development of cutting-edge products such as foldable OLED smartphones.”
The company does not state when we might expect the device, but previous reports have indicated that it will most likely arrive in the later part of 2018. Given that IFA is when Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Note 9, it is possible that the foldable phone in question (which some are calling it the Galaxy X) could make its debut then as well.
More recent reports have claimed that Samsung actually showed off a prototype of the device in secret at CES 2018 earlier this month, but naturally we can’t confirm it. It is also said that the foldable phone could be a limited run device, which we suppose makes sense as Samsung probably wants to see how the market reacts to such a device before committing more resources to it.
