Samsung Cloud Stops Supporting Third-Party App Backups


You may have come across a popup for Samsung Cloud once or twice if you own a Samsung smartphone. The service enabled users to backup their system settings as well as app data to the cloud. It used to support not just native apps but also third-party apps. That’s going to change starting next month. Samsung Cloud is dropping one of its biggest features: the ability to backup third-party app data.

Samsung Cloud users have been notified via email this week that they will no longer be able to backup third-party app data to the service starting next month.

Samsung Cloud users will not be able to backup third-party app data to the service from February 6th, 2018. Once the date has passed, users will not only not be able to backup data they won’t be able to restore it from a previous backup on Samsung Cloud as well.

The company also says that any existing data from previous backups will be deleted immediately after February 6th, 2018. Users who want to restore that data for safekeeping have been advised to use Smart Switch or the backup and restore functionality of each third-party app before it’s too late.

Samsung Cloud will continue to support backup and sync of data from native apps, user data such as photos, videos, music, and documents as well as the Homescreen, app installation files, and other settings from the handset.
