Announced at CES 2018, the company has unveiled the QCC5100 Bluetooth chipset which according to Qualcomm, is said to support low power performance which in turn will help to extend the battery life on Bluetooth headsets. Qualcomm has estimated that the chipset will help reduce power consumption by up to 65% on both voice calls and music streaming compared to previous single-chip Bluetooth solutions.
In addition to these features, it seems that the chipset also improves upon transmit power. This is according to Anthony Murray, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Qualcomm’s Voice & Music business unit who spoke to Gizmodo. What this means is that it should reduce the number of times the headphones cut in and out when moving through a crowded location.
So far it doesn’t seem like there are any headphone makers who will be adopting Qualcomm’s new chipset, but the company has stated that they are working with a number of manufacturers and hopefully we’ll see some available later this year.
