One of the reasons why the Wii U failed is because of the lack of games available for it, where time after time we would see developers not create games for it. When there were games, their releases were also sparse and inconsistent, meaning that gamers did not many a consistent lineup that they could look forward to.
However the Nintendo Switch does not appear to have that problem. According to a recent poll taken at the Game Developers Conference (via Nintendo Everything) which polled about 4,000 industry professionals, it seems that developers are making four times as many games for the Switch in 2018 compared to the previous year.
This is a huge jump especially when you consider that back in 2017, only 3% of developers said that they were working on a title for the Switch, which that number has now jumped to 12%. The Switch also scored pretty well amongst developers who were asked which platform interested them the most, nabbing a score of 36% which isn’t too far off from the PS4 which got 39%.
This positive sentiment towards the Switch isn’t that surprising, especially when you see the titles available for the console, such as Skyrim, DOOM, and Wolfenstein, Minecraft, Rocket League, and more, just to name a few. It is also largely expected that the Switch will be able to surpass the Wii U’s lifetime sales within its first year.
