It turns out that it was a pretty damn good idea for both companies to be working together, because according to a tweet by Ben Goldhaber, Twitch’s director of content marketing, it seems that day one of the first Overwatch League stream managed to nab over 400,000 viewers, or to be more specific, Goldhaber claims that there were over 415,000 viewers who had tuned in to watch.

No doubt that this is great news for Blizzard who are trying to turn Overwatch into a competitive eSports game that could compete with the likes of Counter-Strike, DotA 2, League of Legends, and so on. Whether or not the league will be compelling enough to maintain this momentum remains to be seen, where team popularity will most likely play a factor as well, but so far it seems to be off to a good start.
