It was reported last week that some OnePlus customers had complained about fraudulent credit card transactions after they purchased phones from the official OnePlus website using those cards. The company hasn’t confirmed as yet if its payment system has been compromised but it did confirm that it’s investigating the reports. OnePlus has now said that it has temporarily disabled credit card payments on its website as it looks into these reports.
Customers who complained about the fraudulent credit card activity had used their cards on the OnePlus website within the past two months. This has obviously caused them to worry about the safety and privacy of their payment information.
OnePlus has already said that it’s investigating the reports and that it’s taking the issue as a matter of urgency. It did reveal that only customers who made credit card payments on the website are affected. Those who used PayPal need not worry. It also assured customers that no card information is stored on its website, it’s sent to the payment processor directly over an encrypted connection.
In an update posted on its official forums today, the company says that this is a serious issue and it’s “investigation around the clock.” OnePlus has also decided to temporarily disable credit card payments at oneplus.net. Customers can use PayPal to make purchases and it’s also exploring alternative secure payment options with its service providers.
