This is not the first time that Samsung has created special editions of handsets. In the past we have seen them release special edition versions of phones to celebrate movies and events, plus given that the Olympic Winter Games are being held in Korea, it is less surprising that they have done this.
For the most part, the Note 8 will remain identical in terms of hardware specs and features. However according to Samsung, “Exclusively for the Games, the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games Limited Edition will showcase a shiny white back glass to celebrate the winter theme, and gold Olympic rings – inspired by the Olympic Torch – an expression of the Olympic Movement with the union of five continents, and unity worldwide.”
Basically this is a Note 8 with a new coat of paint, and unfortunately it seems that Samsung has no plans to sell it. The phone will only be made available to those who are part of the 2018 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games, such as staff and the athletes themselves. We wouldn’t be surprised if we saw some eventually find their way onto eBay or third-party reseller websites, but for now there is no official way to get your hands on one.
