In a report from Nikon Rumors, they have heard that Nikon could be working on a new mount for their upcoming mirrorless camera called the Z-mount. This is designed specifically for full-frame mirrorless cameras and will feature a 49mm external diameter, and a flange focal distance of 16mm.
To give you guys a bit of context, the current Nikon F-mount has an external diameter of 14mm and a flange focal distance of 46.5mm. Sony’s own full-frame mirrorless E-mount has an external diameter of 46.1mm and a flange focal distance of 18mm. Whether or not the numbers are accurate/true remains to be seen, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Nikon were to work on a new mount and a new series of lenses for their alleged full-frame mirrorless.
This isn’t the first time we’re hearing these rumors and we actually caught wind of such a camera back in 2017. There is no word on when Nikon might launch their new mirrorless camera, but CP+ is a possibility and we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more info.
