Microsoft Meltdown And Spectre Fix Halted For AMD Chips

Meltdown and Spectre are two massive security vulnerabilities that were discovered recently. Companies are rushing to patch their systems to ensure the safety and security of their users. Microsoft has had to halt the release of its Meltdown and Spectre fix for computers powered by AMD chipsets after complaints by users that the software updates were freezing their machines.

They’re both memory corruption flaws that can enable attackers to bypass operating systems and steal passwords and encryption keys on a wide range of electronic devices like PCs and smartphones.

Microsoft has said that it’s working with AMD to resolve the freezing issues and that it’s going to resume the rollout to the affected AMD devices as soon as possible.

“To prevent AMD customers from getting into an unbootable state, Microsoft will temporarily pause sending the following Windows operating system updates to devices with impacted AMD processors at this time,” the company said.

AMD customers had reported freezing issues to Microsoft after the updates were downloaded. Their PCs stopped loading the Start menu or taskbar once the security updates had been installed.

Microsoft conducted an investigation and found that some AMD chipsets were not conforming to the technical documentation that AMD had provided. This prevented Microsoft from developing issue-free patches for these machines.
