[CES 2018] Kate Spade New York, a popular fashion brand, has never made a proper smartwatch before. It did release hybrid smartwatches in 2016 that are basically classic quartz watches with Bluetooth chips and accelerometers. At CES 2018, Kate Space has launched its first proper smartwatch in collaboration with the Fossil Group.
Three different models of the Kate Spade New York Scallop Touchscreen Smartwatch have been unveiled at CES 2018 in Las Vegas. There’s one with a yellow gold-toned watch case and black strap. The other has a rose gold watch case with a leather strap and a bracelet. All three models are made out of stainless steel.
The smartwatch has a 1.2-inch OLED display with an ambient light sensor. There’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon 2100 processor under the hood and the smartwatch is powered by Android Wear 2.0.
It’s not that different from other smartwatches design-wise. The round display is housed in a case that has some design elements unique to the Kate Spade brand. This includes the scalloped edge and the engraved spade on the crown.
It comes with a “choose your look” watch app which lets the user select a color profile for the watchface based on the outfit they’re wearing that day. This will enable them to change the look of the smartwatch’s face by simply answering a few basic questions through the app about the color of their handbag, tone of their jewelry, and the color of their outfit.
The bracelet model of this smartwatch is going to cost $325 while the leather strap model will cost $295. They will be out in mid-February.
