Apple unveiled the iMac Pro last year and promised to release the machine before the end of this year. The iMac Pro went on sale in mid-December and the company started shipping the units by December 27th. It was not possible to reserve a unit for pickup at an Apple Store initially but customers can do that now. The iMac Pro is now available for store pickup in several markets across the globe.
Apple wanted the iMac Pro to be a professional-grade desktop so it put 8 Intel Xeon processing cores coupled with 32GB of RAM in the $4,999 entry-level model. The machine also comes with a Vega 56 graphics processor with 8GB VRAM and 1TB of flash storage.
Available configurations include the 10 core 3.0GHz model with up to 4TB of storage, Vega 64 graphics processor with 8GB VRAM, and 128GB of RAM. It also features a 5K display with 5120×2880 pixel resolution and 500 nits of brightness. Connectivity options include a 10 Gigabit Ethernet port, four Thunderbolt 3 ports, an SD card slot, and three USB 3.0 ports.
The iMac Pro became available in in-store pickup in Apple Stores in Australia and Japan over the weekend. The company’s website listed the iMac Pro available for almost half of its retail locations in both countries. Only the base model appears to have immediate availability at this point in time.
Customers in the United States and Canada can also opt for in-store pickup now. Many retail locations in both countries now have the entry-level model available.
