While the majority of laptop makers have yet to completely ditch current-gen USB-A ports, Apple has eagerly done way with those ports and for its newer laptops, have only included USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 ports. This means that MacBook users have had to resort to dongles to connect older devices.
Clearly this is troublesome, but the good news is that Hyper has unveiled the HyperDrive which is a USB-C hub that’s on Kickstarter at the moment. While USB-C hubs are pretty common, especially for MacBook owners, one of the key features of the HyperDrive is that it also comes with a 7.5W Qi wireless charger built into it.
What this means is that in addition to offering USB-A ports and other connections, users can also use it to wirelessly charge their iPhones at the same time (or other devices that uses the Qi wireless charging technology). In terms of ports offered by the HyperDrive, it includes USB 3.1 hubs, 4K HDMI output, Gigabit Ether, and a microSD/SD card reader.
For those who are interested, the HyperDrive is priced at $99 which is $60 off its expected retail price of $159. It is expected to begin shipping out to customers come May 2018, so head on over to its Kickstarter page if you’d like to place a pre-order.
