Hulu seems to have had a great year in 2017. The company announced in March 2016 that it had 12 million subscribers and it appears to have seen a growth of over 40 percent in the previous year. Hulu has now announced that it has more than 17 billion paying subscribers in the United States. These 17 million total subscribers are across its subscription and live TV plans. Hulu’s total audience grew to 54 million total unique viewers over the past year.
The company also expanded its on-demand library in 2017 to more than 75,000 episodes of TV across 17,000 titles. It claims that this is more than twice the number of episodes that are available on other leading streaming services.
This includes episodes of popular and award-winning series like 30 Rock, How I Met Your Mother, Golden Girls, Full House, and more. Hulu’s massive content library is complemented by its live TV service that offers more than 50 top live channels. The company says that Hulu is now the only streaming service that provides a complete television experience as part of its over-the-top streaming service.
Hulu CEO Randy Freer says that 2018 is going to be even bigger as the company will invest more in content across its live, library, and original offerings. It’s going to make technology and data improvements as well to ensure that Hulu remains a competitive force in this market.
