So CES has pretty much come and gone, and while we did see some phones announced, like the Sony Xperia XA2, there weren’t many flagship handsets, at least none from the major players. However it could be because these companies are looking to host their own event, possibly to avoid getting swept up in the craziness that was CES.

In fact it looks like HTC could be the first because in a tweet by Evan Blass, HTC is poised to announce a new smartphone in the form of the HTC U11 EYEs, a handset that is said to debut on the 15th of January. This is further confirmed by a post on Weibo in which HTC has apparently been sending out event invites to the Chinese media for an event on the 15th of this month.

It is unclear as to what will be announced as HTC has not mentioned anything, but Blass is claiming that it will be the HTC U11 EYEs. In terms of specs, the HTC U11 EYEs isn’t a particularly powerful handset. It is said to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 652 chipset and will come with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and feature a 6-inch FHD+ display.

We’re also looking at a 3,930mAh battery, IP67 certification, and it will also come with Android 7.0 Nougat, which is actually rather disappointing for a 2018 handset. In any case we suppose we’ll find out soon enough if the rumors are true, so check back with us next Monday for the details.
