In a tweet by the Honor India account, a company rep has confirmed that the phone will not be eligible for the Oreo update due to hardware and software limitations. The statement reads, “we can understand your concern. However, we regret to inform you that Honor 8 is not compatible for Android Oreo update due to hardware and software limitations. We always work for our customers and we are really glad to have you as an Honor customer. Inconvenience is regretted.”

This is rather disappointing because back in October 2017, the company seemed to hint that the update could be arriving, or rather they were suggesting that they were looking into that possibility. We suppose in their defense they never promised that the update would arrive, but rather they would be looking into it, and ultimately it seemed that this would not be working out. That being said, if official updates are not available, users can always turn to the Android community where unofficial ROMs based on Android Oreo could be available for the handset.
