Google Pay Launched To Unify Google’s Payment Options Under One Brand

Google today announced the launch of Google Pay and while it might sound like one, it’s actually not a new mobile payments service. It’s a rebranding of the existing mobile payment options that Google offers. Those who have ever used Android Pay, used Chrome to fill in their payment info automatically or relied on Google Wallet for their purchases will be able to continue doing all of that with Google Pay. The company has merely unified all of this under a single brand.

Google brought NFC payments to mobile phones several years ago with Google Wallet. It came out with the Android Pay mobile payments service a few years later. The company is streamlining things with the new brand.

Google has recognized the need to streamline its payment brand and that’s certainly something that many users will appreciate. The Google Pay brand unites Android Pay, Google Wallet, and the Chrome feature that autofills payment information.

The Google Pay branding will be prominently visible online, across Google products, and even in-store over the coming weeks. It’s already live on the Airbnb, Dice, Fandango, Instacart, and other apps.

The company adds that bringing everything into one brand is the first step for Google Pay and that it’s going to have more to share about it in the future.
