Fitbit To End Support For The Pebble Smartwatch This June

Many Pebble smartwatch owners were probably a little worried about the future of their devices when Fitbit announced that they would be acquiring the company. Their fears were initially confirmed when Fitbit announced that the watches would only work through 2017, but later Fitbit issued an update that removed dependency on the servers, meaning that the watches would keep working even if Pebble’s servers were shut down.

Unfortunately all good things must eventually come to an end. In a blog post on Fitbit’s website, the company has announced that support for the Pebble watch will end come June 2018. In a way nothing has changed as the watches will continue to keep working even after the 30th of June, it’s just that there will no more support after that.

For Pebble owners wondering what they should do next, Fitbit has also announced that they will be offering Pebble owners with a device that has a valid serial number a discount on the Fitbit Ionic. According to Fitbit, “As a sign of appreciation for the Pebble community’s continued enthusiasm for wearable technology, we will be offering Pebble users who still own a device with a valid serial number $50 off a Fitbit Ionic smartwatch.”

The company states that customers who purchased the device prior to December 2016 and opted to receive marketing communications from Fitbit will receive an email with additional details, but for those who didn’t or purchased it after 7th of December 2016 can register their emails here.
