For those unfamiliar, Huawei sued Samsung back in 2016 over alleged patent infringement, and with this ruling, it seems that the courts have ruled in Huawei’s favor. Huawei had initially requested a cross-licensing deal instead of seeking monetary damages or an injunction, but apparently Samsung wasn’t interested and countered with a lawsuit of their own.
Naturally Samsung isn’t going to take this latest lawsuit lying down and has stated that they plan to review the decision and determine what to do later, which we can only assume will either mean appealing the court’s findings, or maybe come to some kind of agreement with Huawei in which they agree to license their tech, or something else.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen tech companies sue each other over patent infringements, and it probably wouldn’t be the last, but note that some of them do run for a very long time, like the case between Apple and Samsung that went on for years.
