In a report from Canon Rumors, they were told by a source that Canon has been surveying professional photographers and select Explorers of Light (who are basically like Canon’s ambassadors) about what they want in a mirrorless camera to make it compelling enough for them to want to purchase it.
What’s interesting is that Canon has been asking these professionals their thoughts on cameras like the Sony A9 and the Fujifilm GFX 50s, which could be an indication of the direction that they are heading, although note that the GFX 50s is a medium format camera, so Canon’s interest could possibly be more about its features and high resolution.
That being said, we have heard rumors that Canon could be working on a full-frame mirrorless camera with its own dedicated sensor, and that camera could be announced this year, but until that happens do take it with a grain of salt.
