It is said that only CEOs and higher-up execs have been invited, and that sales people are not allowed. The invite’s design is also said to be rather elaborate and is apparently printed on heavy glossy paper, and shows a silhouette of a camera that looks similar to the EOS M6 with a hole cut out where the sensor would be, which if true seems to be in line with the rumors that Canon’s next mirrorless could be of the full-frame variety.
Canon’s mirrorless efforts haven’t exactly been going very well, and as pointed out by Photo Rumors, the company’s chairman and CEO Fujio Mitarai admitted in an interview with Nikkei that they are lagging behind when it comes to cutting-edge technology, something that they want to address.
“Our primary management goal this year is to raise our antennas high toward cutting-edge technology. It is on this point where we lag behind other companies. We will open up a research and development center in the U.S.’s Silicon Valley, where we will actively adopt new technology.” In any case we guess we’ll find out soon enough if the rumors are true, so check back with us next month if you’d like to find out more.
