Prior to this, the MCU movie that held that record was Captain America: Civil War which was released in 2016, so it’s actually rather interesting to see that none of the Marvel movies released in 2017 managed to break that record, despite some of them being extremely popular with the audiences.
Then again we suppose this is hype we’re talking about, plus after seeing Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther in action in Civil War, many were impressed and couldn’t wait to see the standalone movie.
According to Fandango’s managing editor Erik Davis, “Black Panther is riding an incredible wave of momentum right now,” Davis said in the release. “It’s one of the biggest and most anticipated movies to ever open in the month of February, and its trailers have electrified the Internet. Tickets have been going fast ever since pre-sales started on Fandango late Monday.”
That being said whether or not the hype lives up to expectations remains to be seen, but we’ll find out soon enough as Black Panther is currently scheduled for a release on the 16th of February.
