In a report from The Wall Street Journal (via Android Central), it has been reported that AT&T has decided to back off on a deal with Huawei, thus potentially delaying Huawei’s plans to launch with a US carrier. It isn’t clear as to why the deal was called off, and apparently it was more to do with AT&T’s decision to back away rather than Huawei’s.
Neither Huawei nor AT&T have commented on the report, so it is unclear as to how true the initial rumors were, although Huawei did previously express their desire to launch their phones in the US. Perhaps the deal could be revived at a later date, but for now it appears to be dead in the water.
In the meantime Huawei isn’t the only Chinese company trying to break into the US market. Xiaomi is also said to be eyeing a launch into the US market and are apparently in talks with local carriers, but when exactly that will take place remains to be seen.
