Apple Lands Scripted Comedy Series Starring Kristen Wiig

Apple is without a doubt trying to ramp up their video efforts, and last year it was reported that Apple had apparently set aside a whopping $1 billion that would be going towards creating original programming. Turns out that the money is already being put towards good use, and has landed the company a scripted comedy series starring SNL alum Kristen Wiig.

This is according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter in which the series is being executive produced by Reese Witherspoon. The series was created by Colleen McGuinness (30 Rock) who will also serve as executive producer alongside Witherspoon and will also be the series’ showrunner. The show will also mark Apple’s first scripted comedy series.

That being said, it is unknown when this series will be making its debut as according to the report, a studio is not yet attached to the series. Apple is also not expected to own it outright (unlike Carpool Karaoke in which they acquired it), so for now a lot of it is still up in the air. Recent reports have also indicated that Apple might also be interested in J.J. Abrams’ new sci-fi series, in which the company is said to be in a bidding war with HBO over it. This would be a huge coup for Apple should they successfully manage to bid on it.
